2022 Taiwan-Japan Passive Component Technology Symposium

2022 Taiwan-Japan Passive Component Technology Symposium

2022 Taiwan-Japan Passive Component Technology Symposium was held on October 27 at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center. It was jointly organized by the Taiwan Passive Component Industry Association, Advanced Passive Component Research Center of NSTC AIR Center, and National Cheng Kung University. The event took place in a hybrid format, with physical attendance in Taiwan and online video conferencing from Japan. Taiwan Vice President Ching-te Lai, Deputy Representative Hattori Takashi from the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association Taipei Office, President Huey-Jen Su of National Cheng Kung University, and Chairman Lin Chih-Lung of the Taiwan Passive Component Industry Association were present to deliver opening remarks. With the aim of facilitating technological exchange between the global leaders in the first and second passive component industries, this symposium was created with the support of industry, government, academia, and research institutions in Taiwan. It attracted over 150 participants, including leading Taiwanese companies such as Yageo and Walsin Technology, as well as experts from the Japanese passive component industry representing upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors. Over 50 Japanese technical experts from leading passive component manufacturers also participated online, making for a vibrant and engaging atmosphere.

During his speech, Vice President Lai emphasized the importance of industry collaboration, international cooperation, and forward-looking high-end technology research and development in response to the global trend of smart development. He expressed his hope for mutual exchange and learning between Taiwan and Japan, enabling both countries to achieve faster deployment and deeper technological advancements in the global competition of the passive component industry, ultimately leading to win-win situations. He also expressed gratitude to the passive component industry for overcoming various challenges and utilizing the development trends of 5G and electric vehicles. Despite the impact of the pandemic, Taiwan's passive component industry had a remarkable year in terms of production value, surpassing NT$70 billion and achieving its best performance in over two decades.

Furthermore, to acknowledge outstanding technological talents in Taiwan's passive component industry, the forum presented the "Taiwan Passive Component Industry Outstanding Contribution Award" to Professor Jian Chao-He, the founder of Chao-Dee Electronics, in recognition of his remarkable contributions to the industry. Professor Lee Wen-Hsi, the organizer of the symposium and a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at National Cheng Kung University, mentioned that the event attracted more than 200 experts from the passive component industries of Taiwan and Japan. The online presence of major Japanese passive component manufacturers such as Murata, TDK, Taiyo Yuden, and KOA demonstrated the forum's significance and drew attention from the Japanese passive component industry, successfully achieving the goal of promoting technological exchange and future development between Taiwan and Japan in the field of passive components.
