Introduction

Establishment of the Metal Industries Research & Development Centre:

In October of 1963, the government of Taiwan, in collaboration with the United Nations Special Fund and the International Labour Organization, established the Metal Industry Development Center as a foundation in Kaohsiung City under the Metal Industry Development Program. Five years later, the program was successfully completed and handed over to the government in October of the 57th year (1968) to continue its operation, aiming to promote the growth and development of the metal industry in Taiwan. In order to strengthen research and development technology, the center was renamed as the Metal Industries Research & Development Centre starting from May 1993.

Main tasks of the Metal Industries Research & Development Centre:

As a non-profit foundation, the Metal Industries Research & Development Centre engages in research, development, and promotion of production and management technologies required by the metal and related industries. Its purpose is to facilitate the upgrading of the domestic metal and related industries, enabling them to possess strong competitiveness in the international market.
